The School has a strong commitment to the education of the
technological aspects of the architectural profession. This commitment is evidenced by a
wide range of technology-based courses which are required for all our majors - these
courses cover environmental controls issues, energy issues, systems and materials, and
computer applications in architecture.
ARCHITECTURE 2263: ARCHITECTURAL SYSTEMS
The course introduces the student to the characteristics of basic building systems
commonly utilized in architectural projects, as well as their appropriate applications and
combination. It is meant to help the student understand the impact of building systems
upon conceptual and design development decisions; help the student understand the impact
of materials upon conceptual and design development decisions; and to provide a general
background and architectural frame of reference for subsequent technical studies of
structural and environmental control systems.
ARCHITECTURE 3134: ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL THERMAL SYSTEMS & LIFE SAFETY
This course is intended to provide the student with a foundation in the
terminology and concepts of life safety, human comfort and basic mechanical systems for
buildings, including plumbing, thermal conditioning and the active and passive techniques
available to today's architect which can impact the built environment.
ARCHITECTURE 3433: ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL LIGHTING & ACOUSTICS
This course is intended to provide the student with a foundation in the
terminology and concepts of architectural acoustics and lighting and to identify the major
concerns imposed on architects in attempting to create quality acoustics and lighting
without compromising aesthetic design or other constraints.
ARCHITECTURE 5100 (ELECTIVE): ADVANCED ENERGY ISSUES IN ARCHITECTURE
This course is intended to expand the student's knowledge and comprehension of
contemporary energy issues which impact architectural design and the basic principles of
energy-conscious architecture as well as to provide the student with an opportunity to
apply the knowledge gained in the solution of a realistic problem in energy-conscious
design.
ARCHITECTURE 6143 (ELECTIVE): COMPUTER APPLICATIONS IN ARCHITECTURE
This course intends to emphasis the use of the computer as an architectural design
tool. The course will introduce the student to a broad scope of information on the
emerging technology of computers and their impact on the architectural profession. Upon
completion of this course, the student should be capable of using an advanced CAD system
comparable to those used in various sizes of architecture and engineering firms. |
