In the United States, most state registration boards require a degree from an accredited professional degree program as a prerequisite for licensure.  The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), which is the sole agency authorized to accredit US professional degree programs in architecture, recognized two types of degrees;  the Bachelor of Architecture and the Master of Architecture.  A program may be granted a five-year, three-year, or two-year term of accreditation, depending on its degree of conformance with established educational standards.

Welcome to ARCH

Masters degree programs may consist of a pre-professional undergraduate degree and a professional graduate degree, which, when earned sequentially, comprise an accredited professional education.  However, the pre-professional degree is not, by itself, recognized as an accredited degree

The OSU School of Architecture offers a fully-accredited, five-year, Bachelor of Architecture degree and a one-year post-professional Master of Architecture degree.

The Bachelor of Architecture degree is designed to provide an outstanding education to students wishing to enter the professional practice of architecture.  This program's curriculum is designed to provide students with a well-rounded studio-based education accompanied by supporting core areas of emphasis in technology, architectural history and theory, and architectural management.  Computers are heavily utilized and integrated into the design experience in the professional program.

The design studio is the center of the School’s educational program. It is the setting where students and faculty work most closely together, and where all specialized study and knowledge comes together and is synthesized in design. The record of OSU students’ achievements in the design studio is evidenced by the success in national and international architectural design competitions. Over the past 40 years, the School has one of the several best records of success in student design competitions as compared to all accredited schools of architecture in the United States.

Note:  Some programs offer a four-year pre-professional degree. This degree is not accredited by NAAB. This pre-professional degree is useful for those wishing a foundation in the field of architecture as preparation for either continued education in an accredited professional degree program or for employment options in architecturally related areas.
