Transfer Student Requirements

Transfer of Credit

Non-architectural courses: Although the Registrar's office makes official evaluation of all transfer credit, advisors within the School can usually predict fairly accurately the applicability of non-architectural course work to the degree programs in architecture and architectural engineering.

Architectural classroom courses: It is often possible to evaluate the substitution of architectural classroom courses through reference to catalogue descriptions, texts required, etc. In some instances, students may be asked to meet with appropriate faculty to discuss the content and level of rigor of particular architectural classroom courses taken at another institution prior to its official acceptance as direct substitution for corresponding courses taught at OSU.

Architectural studio courses: Architectural studio courses are "synthesis" courses involving both skill and knowledge. They form, with the technical and theory courses, the essential core of the architectural curriculum. The content and level of rigor of studio courses, particularly the early years of the curriculum, varies widely between accredited schools of architecture. The relationship between design studios taken in curricula of other than accredited schools of architecture is even more tenuous. To obtain substitution credit for studio courses taken at other schools, the student MUST submit examples of work done indicating the content and level of rigor of each course in question. The work submitted is evaluated by a faculty committee, with the work being returned to the student.

NO STUDIO COURSE CAN BE EVALUATED FOR SUBSTITUTION CREDIT WITHOUT SUBMISSION OF ADEQUATE REPRESENTATIVE EXAMPLES OF THE STUDENT'S WORK, FROM THE COURSE IN QUESTION.
