Three OSU School of Architecture faculty members have been recently recognized with promotions to signify their outstanding contributions to the School of Architecture mission. Suzanne Bilbeisi was promoted to Full Professor in the summer of 2005. Nigel Jones was promoted to Full Professor in the summer of 2006 and John Phillips was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in the summer of 2006.

Professor Bilbeisi has distinguished herself in many ways. She leads the school’s beginning design program, coordinating both the first design studio (ARCH 1216) and the Introduction to Architecture (ARCH 1112) course. She also has been involved with summer academies aimed at introducing high school students to careers in architecture and architectural engineering. She has taught at all levels within the design studio curriculum and has been recognized with several teaching awards. Her scholarship has centered on the pedagogy of architectural education. It should also be noted that Suzanne has also been amazingly successful at securing funding for the various programs and courses that she teaches. External funding is very hard to get in architecture, but Suzanne has secured over $500,000 in funding from various sources!

Professor Jones regularly coordinates the ARCH 2116 design studio. He also has taught studio courses at every year level in the curriculum and offers history/theory courses in English and American Architecture and Greek and Roman Architecture. Nigel serves as the academic advisor for all architecture students and has been heavily involved with architectural education at a national level through the American Collegiate Schools of Architecture Association, serving on the national Board of Directors. Recently Nigel has helped OSU with its general assessment process and was instrumental in OSU’s recent full accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission. In his spare time Nigel just completed an important new book on the history of English architecture.

John Phillips has established himself as an essential member of the AE teaching team. He regularly serves as a studio critic and consultant in the Comprehensive Design Studio and teaches numerous structural courses throughout the curriculum. He is the AEI faculty advisor and also is the national architectural engineering program chair for ASEE.

These three individuals, along with others, represent the future of the School of Architecture. We are in good hands!
