EMERITI FACULTY CONTINUE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE

In recent years the OSU School of Architecture has lost a tremendous asset in knowledge, leadership, and experience as several long-time Architecture faculty members have retired. While the school has been fortunate to find high quality young faculty members to join the faculty, the transitional period has been eased greatly by the willingness of emeritus faculty members to continue to offer their expertise to the school in a variety of ways.

Professor Bob Wright has taught a design studio each year since his retirement. His experience has helped young faculty understand the heritage of design education at OSU. This past year found Bob working once again in the basic design studio with Professor Suzanne Bilbeisi.

Professor Bill Haire is a national expert on financial management for architects and engineers. He has offered his financial management course annually since retirement to eager students who understand that good design happens only when you can pay the bills!

Professor John Bryant has provided OSU Architecture students a wonderful window to the history of architecture in the East and has continued to teach at least one history/ theory course on Japanese or Non-Western architecture each year since his retirement.

Professor Jim Knight has returned to Stillwater twice since retirement for stints at teaching in the design studio. Jim’s latest role was as a studio critic in the fifth year urban studio in the fall of 2004. During this semester Jim and his wife Pam lived in a travel trailer (trailer trash?!) – which was quite a change from their beautiful home in the Rockies. Jim is taking his talents on the road again this year by teaching a studio at his graduate school alma mater, the University of Illinois at Urbana.

Professor Bob Heatly continues to interact with students in France each summer as students visit Provence. Bob offers critiques of student sketches and he and his wife Teri always host a wonderful evening soirée at their home.

Professor Alan Brunken has continued to offer his expertise to OSU by offering advice, critique, and insights into the ever evolving College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology and OSU Masterplans.

These dedicated Professors continue to make a difference at the OSU School of Architecture! It should be noted that since the School has little budget for visiting faculty on a yearly basis, these guys have not been continuing to interact with students for the money!
