Gibby Williams

John “Gibby” Williams (BARCH ‘40) celebrated his 90th birthday on April 30, 2005 with a festive gathering of friends and collegues at his home in Fayetteville, Arkansas. In attendance at the party was Professor John Womack who reports that Gibby is still going strong and is as“sharp as a tack.” Gibby continues to work on his future book, Lectures in Architecture. a series of articles based upon his life-long observations and studies in architecture.

Gibby founded the School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas in 1946. By the way, his nickname “Gibby,” comes from his days when he was a boxer on the Oklahoma A&M (OSU) boxing team (his middle name is “Gilbert.”)
