Maintaining full accreditation is critical for the School of Architecture. Most state registration boards require a NAAB-accredited degree to qualify for licensure in architecture. The OSU School of Architecture has maintained full accreditation since 1949.

The latest accreditation visit occurred in the spring of 2005. The accreditation visit process is a rigorous one. In preparation of the visit, the School prepares a Visiting Team Report (VTR) which documents how the School is meeting the 12 general conditions for accreditation and the 34 specific curriculum related requirements. A visiting team is selected. The team is made up of representatives of the five collateral organizations (AIA, AIAS, NCARB, ACSA, and NAAB). The School can also appoint a School selected representative to the team and Cheryl Morgan served in this capacity. A team chair is selected and a visit schedule is established. In the meantime, the NAAB reviews and accepts the VTR. As the visit approaches, the School prepares a “Team Room” which contains an exhibit of student work which demonstrates compliance with accreditation criteria. The visit takes place over a four day time frame and during this time the visiting team meets with students, faculty, administration, and alumni. At the end of the visit the team gives a verbal exit report which summarizes their findings. A few months later a written report is submitted to the NAAB Board of Directors and this body makes final accreditation decisions.

The School received a full six year accreditation term, which is the longest term that can be awarded.
