MIKE AND SHARON DAMORE SCHOLARSHIPS

A generous gift from Mike and Sharon Damore will create five new $2000 scholarships to be awarded to students participating in the 2007 European Studies program.  This program is critical to the ultimate success of students in today's global economy and these scholarships will make it possible for five students to participate in the program who might otherwise not be able to afford this special opportunity.

Michael Damore (BARCH 1973)  joined A. Epstein and Sons International, Inc., a Chicago-based architecture, engineering, construction, interior design and graphic design firm, in 1991, and is currently the Executive Managing Director, President of Architecture and Interior Design.  His experience includes the coordination and management of all professional disciplines involved in complex projects to ensure that all services are accomplished within the established schedule and budget.  Michael also works closely with client representatives, construction managers, and specialty consultants to contribute to the project's successful completion.

Michael has served as Epstein’s principal-in-charge for such major projects as the Hyatt Center, a 1,850,000 square foot, 47-story high-rise headquarters for the Hyatt Corporation in Chicago; McCormick Place Convention Center West Expansion, a 2,349,636 square foot, $850 M addition to Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center; and the Zlote Tarasy Mixed-Use Development, a 2,400,000 square foot facility that includes a hotel, a multiplex cinema, multi-level retail, restaurants, office space and a 1400-car underground parking garage in Warsaw, Poland.

Michael is also the head of Epstein’s boutique architectural studio – annex|5. annex|5, which was founded in 2002, is an entity which focuses solely on serving an architecturally astute clientele that utilizes Epstein’s engineering capabilities in a holistic approach to high-end architectural design. annex|5 is currently designing the new headquarters for Serta in Hoffman Estates, Illinois and recently completed a new software development facility for Motorola in Krakow, Poland. Over the past four years annex|5 has won numerous national and international design awards from the American Institute or Architects and the Society of American Registered Architects.

In addition to his project experience, Michael was responsible for the start-up Epstein’s offices in China in 2003. The Epstein organization currently has Chinese offices in Beijing and Shenzhen and over the past three years has designed offices buildings, developed master plans for mixed-use developments and R&D facilities.

Prior to joining Epstein, Mr. Damore was a partner with Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill in Chicago.  As partner‑in‑charge, he was responsible for such projects as One North Franklin Center in Chicago, the Hotel Shilla renovation in Korea, and the King's Cross master plan in London.
